immersed in snow

Christopher and I immersed in snow while hiking a trail in the black forest for three days. As we moved deeper into the mountains the forest revealed its beauty under massive layers of snow constantly creating surreal forms and structures in white.

The beauty of this wonderland like landscape took its toll though. The cold slowed down every single movement essential for survival yet necessary to store heat in our bodies.

Equipped with an axe and a small saw we would desperately try to prepare firewood for the long nights to come, meanwhile our drinking water supply was already freezing.

Snow had to be melted in the gas cooker for both, drinking and cooking and the nights were freezing when the thermometer dropped to -15 degrees. Push-ups were mandatory when staggering out of the tent in the morning. Still worth the effort after all.

At one point it was indeed possible to observe how the underwood of the forest began disappearing when snow kicked in once more and we sank knee-deep into it. It forced us to leave the trail, since we hardly made any progress moving forward.
